A good client-REALTOR® relationship can only enhance a real estate transaction.
“Most people understand that working with a real estate agent can save you time, money and paperwork, but how to treat your agent and how they should treat you aren’t always as clear,” Realtor Neal Johnson of Network Real Estate wrote in an article for Wilmington Biz Insights.
Johnson’s “Four Steps To A Great Relationship With Your Realtor” demonstrates how clients can help you help them.
Get pre-approved for a mortgage — Having financing in place before looking for a home can make the agent’s job easier.
“You don’t want to waste your time or your agent’s time by looking at homes outside your price range, and knowing what you have to work with will make the experience smoother for everyone,” Johnson wrote.
Get a good referral — Johnson suggests clients ask friends and family members for referrals. They should have no problem providing the name of an agent who went above and beyond for them and the agent will be more than pleased that you sent potential clients their way.
“Once you find a real estate agent you connect with, ask if you can speak with his or her past clients,” Johnson suggested. “The agent should be happy to pass on the names of a few satisfied clients, which can be a huge help.”
Be honest — Clients should be completely honest with agents. According to Johnson, that includes disclosing details about their financial situation, their credit scores and whether they plan to reside in the home they’re buying or rent it.
“The best way to ensure that she can do her job effectively is to be open and honest with your situation,” he said.
Commit — Great real estate agents do their best to provide their clients with the best possible service. That requires a lot of time and dedication. In turn, Johnson wrote, that commitment should be met with an equal amount of engagement from their clients.
“Because of this investment, it’s common courtesy to working exclusively with one agent for the duration of your relationship,” Johnson wrote.
